Champions Trophy 2025: ICC Delays Decision, Tension Grows Over Host Venue

The ICC’s Champions Trophy 2025 faces uncertainty as no decision is made on the host nation. India’s refusal to play in Pakistan and a potential hybrid model are causing delays.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already told the ICC that India will not travel to Pakistan for the event.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had a short virtual meeting today about the Champions Trophy 2025, but no decision was made.

The ICC Board will meet again soon to try and find a solution for the tournament, which was originally planned to take place in Pakistan from February to March next year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already told the ICC that India will not travel to Pakistan for the event.

The BCCI has suggested a hybrid model, where India would play its matches in the UAE. However, Pakistan has insisted that the whole tournament, including India's matches, should be played in Pakistan.

Today’s meeting was supposed to clear things up, but no solution was reached.

The tournament is already behind schedule, as the match fixtures, which were supposed to be released 100 days before the first game, still haven't been announced.

This has also left broadcasters confused about where the tournament will be held.

There have been discussions about offering Pakistan financial incentives to agree to the hybrid model, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) still wants all matches to be played in their country.

They have started upgrading the stadiums for the tournament.
